Another success for our Chess Club!

Christoph Thurner —

From Kaurilands to Sao Paulo and beyond – Anya Thurner  to represent NZ  in World Cadet Chess Championship.

Anya  (Rm 1) has been nominated by the New Zealand Chess Federation to represent New Zealand in the Under 10 Girls category of The World Cadet Chess Championship.  The tournament takes place on the 21st and 22nd August this year in Brazil.   Anya will fly to Sao Paulo and then drive further to Pocos de Caldas, where the tournament is being held.

She will play 11 games of Chess – each with a time limit of 90 minutes per player plus an additional 30 seconds for every move made – so this is serious Chess.  Last year 112 students from all over the world played in the same category.

Well done Anya and we will be looking forward to hearing all about your experience when you return.
