Principal's Message

Jo Augustine —

Kia ora e te whānau

A very warm welcome to all our new children in Room 15 who have joined us this term and any other new children and whānau across the school.  We look forward to working with you and your children.

Term 2 is underway!  There are lots of exciting things happening around the school and to a large extent we are operating as 'normal'.  Thank you for continuing to notify us if your child has Covid or is a household contact.  The numbers have fluctuated a bit within these first two weeks of school but on the whole we have had very good attendance.  Hopefully we continue with this wonderful sunshine and we can have the children out in the fresh air as much as possible.

This week our Year 4 children have been to the museum to visit Peter the T Rex as part of their paleontology inquiry this term - a very exciting topic!  We also had our Year 4-6 school cross country event around the school on Monday.  It was great to see such impressive participation and achievement.  We have some superstar runners who will be attending the zone competition on Tuesday next week at Konini School.  Read about both of these events below.

Next Friday 20th May we will celebrate Pink Shirt Day.  Celebrated annually around the globe, Pink Shirt Day began in Canada in 2007 when two students took a stand against bullying, after a peer was bullied for wearing a pink shirt. This is where Pink Shirt Day was founded.  In Aotearoa, Pink Shirt Day reinforces and celebrates diversity and creates environments where all people can feel safe, valued and respected.  Each year, workplaces, schools, organisations and individuals join the movement to make a stand against bullying. Today our student leaders have been around to the classrooms to talk about what the day means and why it is important.  We always look forward to seeing lots of pink hair, shirts, wigs and makeup to support our annual Pink Shirt Day!

Coming up later this term we are organising a presentation by the Parenting Place on the topic Raising Confident & Resilient Children.  This seems to be a topic we can all benefit from no matter the age of our children!  Details will follow as soon as we have a confirmed date but I wanted to give you a heads up that this will be coming up.

Have a wonderful weekend.
