School Pool Update

Nick Summerfield —

School Board – 6 November 2020

In the past we have sold pool passes that allowed whānau to take advantage of our wonderful facility over the summer.  We know this has been valued, but we have made the difficult decision not to offer pool passes this summer.

There are three reasons for this:

  • Extensive building and maintenance work across the school site will take place over the summer holidays.  This means we cannot be sure safe access to the school pool will always be available.

  • The uncertainty of Covid-19.  We cannot be sure that future alert level changes or other restrictions will not prevent ready access to the school pool.

  • Cost.  Due to the cost of employing lifeguards and maintaining the pool we have lost money for the last two summers.  In the past we have been comfortable absorbing small losses in recognition of the fundraising efforts that went into saving the pool, but losses are increasing year on year.

For those of you who would like a summer swimming option, we understand that Glen Eden Intermediate School still plans to offer casual pool access.
