Room 12

Hannah Macpherson —

2017 has been an amazing year for Room 12.  We started our year by exploring the Maritime Museum and discovering where in the world our families had journeyed from.  We explored different ways children get to school and created our own imaginary adventure to school.  What a ‘Journey'!  Raft building provided a challenge but was also a highlight!  Term two began with a visit to the Tread lightly caravan, looking at how we can care for our environment.   Mikayla and Marissa took us for a lesson where we conducted science experiments and learnt so much more about the stream we have running through our school.  We certainly had an ‘Eye on Nature’.   Matariki celebrations occurred and many of us walked to the top of our maunga on a very brisk morning.  Term three catered to more of our creative sides.  For our ‘Into the spotlight’ inquiry we visited Te Uru art gallery twice, using local artists as inspiration to create amazing pieces of art.  Miss Velasquez joined us this term for seven weeks.  She taught us Drama skills and we experimented in creating art with glitter.  Term four has been all about ‘The Great Outdoors’ with camp being our main focus.  What an adventure that was!  Smiles all around.  We have also biked, scootered and skateboarded our way around the school.  Swimming and participating in Surf to School lessons has been amazing!  An all round awesome year.  These Year Fours are now ready to start a new learning journey and become Year Fives!
