Tracey Henderson —

During Term 3, Year 6’s inquiry was Ancient Egypt. We visited the Auckland Museum to see an exhibit on Ancient Egypt where we saw a mummy in a sarcophagus and were able to handle many replicas of artefacts we had been learning about such as canopic jars and shabti dolls.

In class we made our own canopic jars while learning about the process of mummification. We furthered our learning in small groups by researching and creating a display about a specific topic in Ancient Egypt that interested us. Other groups compared something from Ancient Egypt with another ancient culture, for example enormous monuments.

We ended the term with a pop up museum where we shared our learning with parents and our peers.
