Kia ora e te whānau
Our thoughts are with all those suffering as a result of the recent cyclone. Devastation has impacted so many and is so widespread it is almost incomprehensible. Many of you will have been impacted and continue to be impacted personally. So many of our families still don't have power and don't know when it will be reinstated. If anyone needs to come into school for a hot shower, to charge devices or use our kitchen facilities, please reach out to us - we can help.
It is hard to believe our Year 6 camp managed to happen given the weather at the beginning of the week. While the camp had to be shortened by one night it sounds as if all the planned activities have been able to happen with none being missed out. The sun has been shining and there are tons of fantastic photos coming through on Seesaw. Our happy campers are due to be back at school at 4.30pm this afternoon. We will include some of the photos in the next newsletter. Huge thanks to Erin and the Year 6 team for organising and running this camp. It is an epic experience that children always remember!
Our Year 5 children who were meant to be going to Camp Adair will get a rescheduled date as soon as possible.
A very warm welcome to all new families who have joined Kaurilands School in 2023 and there are a lot of you! We are so happy to welcome you all and look forward to getting to know you all - all whānau are welcome here! Please contact us if you ever need assistance with anything - every question is important!
Thanks to all who attended our pōwhiri on the 7th February (seems so long ago!). It was great to meet everyone and see the wonderful level of support for your children. We are planning lots of opportunities for whānau to meet and get to know each other throughout the year. Watch this space!
Next week we hope you are able to come in and spend some time meeting your child's teacher/teachers either Wednesday or Thursday afternoons. It is of huge importance to us that we know you well and you know us. The details for booking these meetings are below.
I would like to introduce our four new staff members who have joined us in 2023. Gracie Derbyshire is teaching Year 6 in Room 1a, Jennie Chatfield teaching Year 6 in Room 3b, Riley Flynn teaching Year 5 in Room 3b and Maxime Van Luijken teaching Year 2 in Room 24.
