Principal's Message

Jo Augustine —

Tālofa lava!

This week our school has been celebrating Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa -Samoan Language Week. The theme for 2023 has been ‘Mitamita i lau gagana, maua’a lou fa’asinomaga’ which means ‘Be proud of your language and grounded in your identity’. We are extremely proud of all our Samoan children and aiga and appreciate the way they honour their cultural identity, beautiful language and vibrant community. I was lucky enough to spend some time in stunning Samoa in the last holidays, something I had wanted to do for decades. FA'AFETAI TELE LAVA !

Our classes have been creating art, trying some Samoan food, practising Samoan language and learning from our Samoan children about their culture. Please see some of these activities below.

The final total is in and Te Whānau Āwhina raised a whopping $50,387.21 from our Colour Run last term! A huge thank you to Sarah Van't Hof, Te Whānau Āwhina and Erin Namajuska for organising this fantastic event.  It was a huge success and we thank you for all your generosity in fundraising for our library.

Lastly, congratulations to our Principal Award winners from our mid term assembly last week. We are so proud of you all for being amazing Kaurilands citizens!

Arohanui
