What’s in your favourite cereal?

Over the last few weeks, Rūma Rua B, along with the rest of the Year 6 syndicate, have been learning about looking beyond just the look of the box when selecting a healthy breakfast option. Students have been discovering how to analyse sugar content and the importance of things such as carbohydrates for energy.

“I’ve learnt that there are many things on a nutritional label like carbohydrates, sodium, sugar, vitamins, saturated fats and protein. I think the most important thing you should be looking at on a label are sugar and protein.” - Ellie

“I’ve learnt that you need to look at the sugar content and ingredients on a nutritional label. It’s important to look at the sugar because if you eat too much you can get diabetes. You look at the ingredients to make sure there’s nothing you’re allergic to.” - Kiera

“I’ve learned that Milo is the best chocolate cereal for breakfast because it has a balance between sugar and protein. The other three cereals were too sugary. In a day you don’t want to eat more than 6 teaspoons, or 24 grams, of sugar.” - Benji
