Principal's Message

Jo Augustine —

Kia ora e te whānau

What a busy edition! So much going on every week and so much to celebrate!

We enjoyed having our International students with us for the first half of the term in different classes across the school. The students were from China and Japan and stayed between 2 - 5 weeks. We always learn a lot from the experience of hosting these children and their families and they all seem to love coming here. We have a few more children coming in Term 4.

Unfortunately I was unwell last week so I missed the wonderful assembly run by Year 1 on Friday and the performance by our band - The Marones. Thanks to Steve King who works each week with our band preparing them for performance and expanding their knowledge of rock music! Love it!

Congratulations to Erin and the Year 4 team on a very successful camp at Carey Park on the 22nd and 23rd August. We absolutely lucked in with the weather this year! Huge thanks to all whānau who gave up their time to attend and support.

This week we will hold the postponed Keeping Ourselves Safe parent meeting on Wednesday night at 6.30pm in Rūma Kowhai. All are welcome to attend. The meeting will be run by Constable Carl as this is a programme developed by the NZ Police.

Keeping Ourselves Safe is a comprehensive child abuse prevention programme for schools. Its purpose is to:

  • teach students a range of safe practices that they can use when interacting with other people, both online and face to face

  • teach students how to recognise the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships, and encourage students who have been or are being abused to seek help

  • prevent abuse by making parents and teachers more aware of their responsibilities to help students avoid abuse.

Book Week is coming up in Week 10! Our famous Book Parade will be held on Wednesday 25th September. Parents are welcome to join us in costume or not!

Finally, congratulations to all our Principal's Award winners from Friday's mid term assembly. We are so proud of you all for being amazing Kaurilands citizens!
