2020: EPro8 Competition Grand Final for Kaurilands team.

Frances O'Hanlon —

EPro8 is an exciting inter-school science and engineering competition sponsored by Vector, which is held throughout the country from Years 5 to 13. School teams compete against each other to finish a variety of fun and interesting challenges in two and a half hours.

This year our Year 6 Ninjaneers team, (Louis, Luke, Blake and Carter), successfully won their heat.  As a result of COVID, this part of the competition was completed at school during their morning tea and lunchtimes. Their robotic turtle was judged the best out of the whole country, - that was from 1000 entries for all the Years 5 & 6 and Years 7 & 8 competitors in NZ! A most tremendous feat.

In the semi-final competition, they also finished way ahead of their nearest rivals securing first place again.

Last Friday the Ninjaneers competed in the grand finals against 11 other teams from around Auckland. This time the challenges were much more complicated. It was a very exciting and tense time watching the group working away to complete their challenge. In the end, they came a very commendable second place, with only 30 points separating them and the winning team.

The secret to the Ninjaneer’s phenomenal success was their ability to communicate, problem solve, and work in sync as a team.

I am so very proud of our Ninjaneers and they deserve every accolade.
