Chapter Chat - A novel study - The Wild Robot

Ruma Rima has been engaged in a really great novel and has taken part in a literacy programme called Chapter Chat.  A lot of classes from Kaurilands in Years 3 - 6 also take part in this great initiative that helps kids to think deeply and critically about a shared text. There is a new novel each term and this term, we've been reading The Wild Robot by Peter Brown.  Each week, the Chapter Chat team assign creative and critical thinking tasks about certain chapters in the book.  It's then up to tamariki to choose a task for the week to show their understanding of the chapters read in class.

There are creation tasks that our akonga have loved making.  Here are some examples of some of the dioramas the kids have made, depicting scenes from the story.  Some tamariki also made nests - using materials from around the school.  In the story, Roz the Robot accidentally knocks a gosling nest and only one egg survives - she then ends up becoming the foster mother of the lone surviving gosling, named Brightbill.
