Rōpū Iwa (Rm 27 & 28)

Rebecca Barrett & Ally Lee —

What an unforgettable year we have had in Rōpū Iwa.

We started the year by developing relationships and friendships with each other. Our collaborative learning space has provided us with lots of opportunities to learn from, about and with others. We have been on many school trips this year and have really appreciated all the support from our dedicated whānau. In Term 1, we learnt about treasure and what this means to each and everyone of us. This lead to lots of learning about treasure maps and the life of Pirates. Our adventure to Arataki was definitely a highlight in Term 2. We loved exploring the underground world through hands on and authentic activities and made sure we had our walking shoes for the bush walks that followed. In Term 3, we learnt about endangered species. The children’s passion for this topic was inspiring and they decided to open up a shop so that we could fundraise for animals in need. It was incredible to see the children collecting money, helping customers around our shop and most importantly, taking ownership of their learning and having fun. In Term 4, it started to look a bit like Christmas. We practised lots of songs to sing at our annual Christmas Picnic and made our very own Christmas tree. We will miss the Rōpū Iwa whānau dearly and look forward to watching you all continue to blossom and grow in 2018. Never forget how special and unique you all are Rōpū Iwa.
