Recently the students in Ruma Whā painted their own self portraits. We had a photo shoot in class where each student posed for their self portrait. They had the freedom to pick how they wanted to pose and whether they wanted to express a particular emotion. We printed out the photos and students traced the main contours of their face and body onto a transparent sheet with Sharpie. Students had to select a colour scheme thoughtfully and then paint the back of the transparent sheet as their background. We love how unique they all look and how colourful they have made our classroom!
