News from Room 12

Jenna Powell —

Rūma Tekau Mā Rua has been busy learning about growth this term! We have learnt how to change a fixed mindset into a growth mindset and spent the second half of the term looking at how plants grow.  We became gardeners and planted our own bean seeds.  Read our bean seed stories below!

Molly - Delicious!  I can't wait to eat the beans from my seed house!  First, Room 12 coloured in the seed houses.  Next we wet the cotton balls and put them in bags.  Some people chose cups.  Then we put them on the window.  The plant life cycle goes seed, germination, seedling then it is a plant.  My bean seed hasn't woken up yet.  It is still a seed!

Andrew - I can't wait to eat my delicious beans!  First I coloured my seed house in until it was beautiful then I cut it out.  Next I picked out a small plastic bag and put two wet cotton balls inside.  Then I put a bean seed in too. Right now I have a seedling and I know that because the seed is starting to grow leaves.  I learnt that it starts off as a seed then it germinates then it turns into a seedling and then it turns into a plant with bigger leaves.

Joel - Wow!  Seeds can grow in cotton balls!  First Room 12 chose to make a sprout house to grow bean seeds in.  Next we had to pick a cup or a bag to put a seed in too.  Then we got some cotton balls and we wet them in water.  Then we put the seed house up on the window for everyone to look at.  Mine is still a seed but it is about to crack open soon and germinate!
