In Term 1, Ahi Kaa learnt how early Māori used to catch birds by using a waka kererū which is a kererū trap. We discovered how the kererū were then preserved in their own fat in a calabash and stored in a pataka kai (food storehouse).
We began Term 2 by painting pictures of kererū. We made decisions about form, outline, detail and background. We showed skill in mixing colours and persevered to create stunning works of art.
