Greetings, Kia ora, Talofa, Malo e lei

As I said last week it has been humbling to see how staff and students have supported one another over this last week. We have been grateful for the many messages of support from parents, past students and other schools from around New Zealand. This amazing response has shown the heart of our Catholic community. Kavanagh College had a strong presence at Tracy’s tangi in Whakatane and I know his family and whanau were very thankful for this. On behalf of the staff I again thank you for the many messages of support and Aroha.

The College is pleased to have so many of our Year 11’s involved in the Duke of Edinburgh programme this year and last weekend saw them undertake their first tramp for the year in the Oteake reserve near St Bathans. Staff and students have also been busy preparing for this year’s production of Annie which will be running in the second week of next term.

Incredibly, we are over one quarter of the way through the senior academic year. All students should be well underway with internal assessments and have a number of results from standards already completed. Do check up on your child’s progress via the parent portal in the new Musac Edge App. I remind you that the parent portal means easy parental access to information about your son or daughter, including timetable, attendance and an easy payment option - reducing the need to physically come into school or send money to school. Full details on how to gain access to this are available in this year’s Issue 2 newsletter available from our website.

Our Year 9 & 10 classes are about to start their social studies enquiries into a local or global issue. This will mean researching an issue with a view to developing some action-oriented outcomes or solutions. Quite a big ask!

I would like to take this opportunity to encourage students and parents to make a booking for the upcoming parent teacher interviews. It is always good when students attend with their parents to engage in the learning conversation. Details of how to book are in this newsletter.

We will be offering the sacrament of Reconciliation for everyone next week and Easter Liturgies will be held during our assembly time on the last Wednesday of term of the Term.
