Otago University Music Production Workshop

Georgie Watts —

Senior Music students from Dunedin schools were invited to attend a workshop led by two Music lecturers from Otago University.

Dr Mike Holland explained how he recorded and produced music at the professional level at Albany Street Studio here in Dunedin. He showed how he used ProTools to manipulate the recordings in ways that our students can too on their own software.

David Harrison showed (with the same track) how music technology could take the live recording and turn it into EDM (Electronic Dance Music). He explained the use of the programme, Ableton, and the associated technologies.

It was an eye-opening and worthwhile experience for our musicians and composers.
