Principal's Message

Kate Nicholson —

Kumusta, Kia ora tātou, Talofa lava, Greetings to you all

One of the privileges I enjoy as principal, is the ability to attend college cultural events, competitions, and sports games. Therefore, I truly enjoyed heading to Invercargill for a couple of days this week to watch our teams play in the amended South Island Tournament Week that this year involved teams from Otago and Southland. Thank you so much to the staff and members of the wider college community who have given their time to prepare and travel with these teams. The positive attitude and excellent commitment of our teams was very obvious to me as an onlooker and their coaches and managers spoke highly of these things as well. You can read more about our successes in this newsletter. A special congratulations goes to Georgia Kennedy who won the Golden Boot award for top goal scorer in the Girls’ Football Tournament, and to Holly Uluakiola and Kyra McEntyre who were both named in the B grade talented team selected during the netball tournament. The Mixed Hockey team continues with their games through until tomorrow – keep an eye on our Kavanagh College Facebook page for game updates.

Thank you so much to the staff, students and parents involved with production and five performances of ‘Grease’ at the end of last week. In any year, it is a huge task to take a production through to performance, and this year’s events took more of a toll than usual on all involved. If you managed to get tickets into the limited audience numbers, I know you will have thoroughly enjoyed this very professional production. As this production finished, I know that the end of year pantomime is already being thought about! Hopefully, we can look forward to a smoother term four.

It has been a pleasure this week, to meet some of our new entrants for 2021. What a stunning group of young people enrolling! If you know of anyone who has not yet returned enrolment forms, or who are interested in finding out a bit more about enrolment, please encourage them to get in touch with the office. Preparation for next year is well underway and we look forward to a strong transition programme for these new Kavanagh students.

Have a wonderful weekend in the warmth of spring, families, and friends.
