Principal's Message

Kate Nicholson —

Greetings

Who would have thought we would be celebrating Kavanagh Day on November 5th? It is wonderful to keep this tradition going and I am sure that everyone is going to treasure it even more under the circumstances.

We have a huge amount of performing arts talent at Kavanagh and it was yet another stunning ‘Kavanagh’s Got Talent’ yesterday followed by a high energy Cultural Awards night with a full auditorium. The Arts at Kavanagh have set the bar high in terms of effort, commitment and execution and we are fortunate to have very committed staff who see the value in encouraging this aspect of college life. Thank you to this dedicated group of staff for all the extra time they put in to delivering opportunities for our students.

I look forward to our final full school assembly on Tuesday afternoon. In a break from tradition, we will take the opportunity to formally acknowledge our Mana Pounamu awardees, Class Act recipients and Pacific Island Scholarship award winners. There will also be an opportunity to acknowledge staff who are leaving after many years of service to the college and we will be announcing our head students for 2021. All these acknowledgements and the sharing of these accolades bring about a sense of community and of aspiration for the younger members of our college.

If you have a child in year 7 or 8 this year, please look out for the information that will be emailed to you next week regarding changes in curriculum and structure for next year. This will be followed by a meeting for all parents early December when you can ask questions and hear more about what next year will look like for your child. We are currently creating our strategic plan for the next three to five years and curriculum review supported by excellence in teaching and learning is high on our agenda. This meeting will explain a little more of our ‘why’, ‘what’ and ‘how’.

Enjoy this beautiful spell of weather and let us remember to give thanks for our blessings and the opportunity to live in this special part of the world.
