A large number of students have been out for national tournament week as far afield as Nelson. The South Island netball champs were at the Edgar Centre and our Senior A girls have pushed hard in their division. Well done to all of our teams and coaches. Our hockey players also acquitted themselves well up in Oamaru. They have been a top group who have served Kavanagh with distinction over a number of seasons.

Currently, we are finalising a number of capital projects that will be happening over the next 2-3 years. Unfortunately, the Music House, while charming, is no longer fit for purpose and a new music suite will be developed over at the Pompellier block on Tennyson St complete with a recording studio. The art department will also move over to the Pompellier block. That will free up the Bodkin Block beneath the Library to become the main admin area and with other changes, it will become the formal entrance to the College on the " sunny" side of the school. The long-awaited refurbishment of our Science block is due to get underway in the next holiday break starting with the lower physics lab. Our main Auditorium is also scheduled for an internal spruce up so there is plenty on but more importantly, these projects will help modernise and future-proof the school.

Congratulations once again to Erika Fairweather on making the NZ Youth Olympic team in swimming. It was great to receive the official acknowledgment from the NZ Olympic Committee. A truly stunning achievement. I am sure we will all rally round to support Erika and her family in their fundraising efforts to support her upcoming trip to Buenos Aires, Argentina.

This week (September 5th) saw the feast day of St. Theresa of Calcutta. Let us pray that we can follow her example of hope and compassion. She once said:
