Principal’s Message

Steve Read —

Greetings, Kia ora, Talofa, Malo e lei

Congratulations to all those students in the College production, Beauty and the Beast last week. I thoroughly enjoyed the show and the high calibre of the performance was a real credit to all those involved. Also a special thanks to the staff and parents who gave so freely of their time to support the success of the show, particularly Rebecca & Grant Meikle, Christine and Joel Wilson and Sheryl Watt.

Kavanagh College along with the Dunedin Secondary Schools Partnership has again received funding from the Otago University to run regular tutorials in a number of the scholarship subjects for students studying in Year 13. We are grateful to the University of Otago for this support and are pleased with the number of Kavanagh College students taking part.

Kavanagh College participated in The “Big Sing” which was on at the Town Hall yesterday. The “Big Sing” provides opportunities for school choirs to sing in a professional but supportive setting. Congratulations to all those students involved.

Kavanagh is hosting the Southern Catholic Schools Junior Sports Tournament next Wednesday. With over 140 students from Kavanagh competing it promises to be a fun day. This Sunday and Monday sees our Senior A, Year 10A & Yr9A Netball teams competing in the Otago Secondary School Netball tournament and we wish them every success. The Senior Girls Sevens Rugby team has again made the Dunedin final and will play St Hilda’s next Wednesday. This promises to be a tough game and we hope to secure a win.

Excitement is starting to build for the Kavanagh College Formal, to be held at the Town Hall next Friday night. It is a great occasion and a chance to see our wonderful young men and woman enjoy a social event in a mature manner.

Finally, our thoughts and prayers are with Mr O’Brien. We are hopeful of a full recovery and look forward to his return at the end of June.

God Bless
