Principal's Message

Tracy O'Brien —

Kia ora ra tatou. Greetings and Salutations

Welcome back for Term 4 and what will likely be a rapid transit for all, especially our seniors as final assessments and exams loom.

In the break both our boys' and girls' curling teams took out duel national titles. That was pretty special. Our senior girls' basketball finished 5th at their national tournament in Palmerston North. They were only a whisker from the top four but they have been a proven set of performers throughout. Well done to all players in both codes and huge thanks to staff and parents for making this happen.

There is a lot on again this term besides the seniors preparing for finals as the junior school program is full. Year 8 and 10 camps are being organised as well as a slew of in-school events on the horizon.

Changes aplenty loom staff wise for 2019. Pauline Ireland-Kenny, our HOD English supremo, says she is not retiring but it's a big change after a long and successful tenure as our literary sage and guide. Next year we welcome Emma Harris from Kristin school in Albany, Auckland who will be taking up the role. Emma is a highly qualified and successful teacher who comes highly recommended. She won the position in a very strong field of applicants.

Another significant change is the retirement of Mr Sidney Bennett, the College Bursar. Sid has been another highly able servant ensuring the College finances are well managed as well as having a wide range of other executive officer duties.

There are a few more staff announcements to come.  Suffice to say the College is going through a significant change cycle in personnel. This is really the natural order of things and whilst we are saddened to lose capable staff I, as Principal,am buoyed by the calibre of applicants we get who want to be part of KAVANAGH COLLEGE.

Best wishes for a great term. Seniors-work hard. Kia kaha!
