Science Enrichment Experiences at Kavanagh (SEEK)

Kerron Thomson —

One of the goals of the COL this year is to use our newly renovated Science labs to host some of our contributing schools in a Science program.

Set up by the enthusiastic Mrs Kate Gilmore, the first two schools have been in to investigate the properties of Matter. While matter is often divided into Solids Liquids and Gases, students have had the opportunity to discover that sometimes substances can fall into more than one category. As part of the program, students have made slime and played with a cornflour mix that can be both a solid and a liquid.

One of the goals of the program is to give students the opportunity to carry out some experiments in an actual laboratory and use real science equipment. Stickers and certificates are available for those students who can identify pieces of equipment as well as recall some of the science ideas covered.

We are enjoying having our Year 5 and 6 Catholic school students at Kavanagh College and look forward to the 4th Term when we will have them back again.
