There is something fishy going on in the Science labs

Kerron Thomson —

Year 12 Biology have been studying respiratory systems.

Last week, students from three year 12 Biology classes completed a fish dissection to support their investigation into gas exchange systems in different animal groups. Bycatch from a local fishery is obtained and staff are never sure what might turn up. This year, we received a mixture of dogfish (small sharks) and red cod complete with parasites in the mouth and gills and small crabs in their stomachs. It was a wonderful opportunity to have discussions about relationships between species while gaining useful insight into gill structures and how they work.
