Curling

Jill Armstrong —

Our two curling teams have made a great start to the 2017 Dunedin Secondary Schools' curling competition

Competing in the experienced grade, our girls team named "Chicks with Sticks" has completed the first five rounds undefeated and are clear at the top of the table. Their most recent victory was a 3-1 win over last year's champions, Otago Boys High School. Grace Bishop, the team skip, had the measure of her New Zealand representative counterpart throughout the match, due to her impeccable line, weight, and shot selection. The team is made up of Emily Armstrong-Sagvari, Elizabeth Audas and Temika Bishop, with Grace Bishop as skip. The quality of stones delivered has been of the highest level and the team has continued to improve on their impressive effort of 3rd at the Secondary School Nationals last year.

The Kavanagh boys team, the "Rock Crushers", have been playing some great curling as well, with their most recent match, an 8-0 victory over Otago Girls High School. This team has benefited from some quality first up stones from Finn Bartlett, Michael Burke and Hunter Burke, and some great skipping and match winning shots from Jayden Bishop. Games are played at the Dunedin Ice Stadium between 6.00 and 7:30pm on Wednesdays.
