Hello, Kia Orana, Talofa, Malo Malo

Yesterday's full school assembly saw a large number of students presented with sports and cultural badges. We also had some outstanding awards in the ICAS writing competition. Congratulations to all students who crossed the stage. Our Kapa Haka roopu (group) also performed part of their bracket from Otago Polyfest last week There are a number of young Kaea (leaders) of that group with incredibly true voices. We look forward to more in the future!

Currently, senior school end of year reports are being formulated. Thanks to the staff for their hard work in bringing together what, for many, students will be their last report at Kavanagh. We are also working through subject and timetable options for students next year and in some areas we are trying some semester or half year courses, for example in Human Biology. This means students can still take a part science course gaining NCEA credits but also have the chance to try other subjects or courses. This provides more choice and hopefully engagement and enjoyment that will lead to better overall performance and results. 

In the junior school, we are also looking to revamp our courses providing students with more flexibility and choice while still honing in on their core skills in literacy and numeracy. 

As a special tribute, I would like to acknowledge the passing of Whaea Mrs Jenny Donaldson who passed away this week. Whaea Jenny, of Ngati Porou descent, took our College Kapa Haka team for a number years. Our sincere condolences go out to the Donaldson whanau. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen
