Handball Success at Kavanagh

Michael MacKenzie —

We congratulate the following girls who on the back of being both National Secondary school champions and Dunedin local competition winners have been selected for National handball teams.

Annalise Wilson made the U17 NZ Handball team and Madi Sutherland, Evie Snell and Grace Apuwai-Bishop made the U19 NZ Handball team.

Both teams were selected from a large group of girls from all over New Zealand and were whittled down to teams of 14. The girls have been involved in a number of training camps in Wellington and Timaru. The teams travel to New Caledonia on the 11th of August to compete in the International Handball Federation Trophy Oceania championships. The winners of this competition will then go to the World Cup in Europe in 2020 in Romania.

We have also had boys who have been involved in National Squad training camps - Graysen Thomson, Riley Allibone, Archie Campbell, and Jack Harris. The boys team will be selected next year, as they head toward the World Cup in 2021 in Hungary.
