Mataī Bug Boast Poems
Our Mataī tamariki have been learning about how poets shape their writing. They have written their own bug boast poems based on a Dragonfly poem. We explored similes, awesome adjectives, the importance of punctuation, and how phrasing on each line of the poem works to fire up our imaginations.
Stink Bug by Molly
My black body is like midnight
And my strong stink is like pongy poo.
Of all the animals here in the forest,
Surely I must be the stinkiest!
Wētā by Lennox
My legs are like thorns on a rose
And my antennae are long and curvy.
Of all the animals here in the bushes,
Surely I must be the spikiest!
Tunnel Web Spider by Henry
My legs are like fuzzy lines
And my web is sticky and fragile
Of all the animals here in the grass
Surely I must be the best!!
Ladybird by Betsy
My back is like lots of blueberries on a pancake
And my wings are really delicate
Of all the animals here in this sky
Surely I must be the most beautiful!
Monarch Butterfly By Charlotte
My body is like a stripey whirl of yellow and black
And I crunch on leaves all day
Of all the animals here in the valleys
Surely I must be the monarch Queen
