FUNDRAISING SCHOOL SPONSORSHIP

The Kaukau Challenge is Khandallah Schools principle fundraising activity. If your child goes to Khandallah School we would appreciate if you would sponsor your child in achieving this amazing challenge.  Funds raised are going towards new playground equipment.

ON THE DAY 

9:00am - Cafe opens in the senior block.

9:00am to 9:45am Registration - Race bib and timing chip collection from Kowhai.

9:45am - Compulsory event Safety briefing and Warm up. Top Court, outside EasySwim Pool.

10:00am - Kids’ Kaukau Challenge Begins.

11:00am to 1.00pm - Food and Family Fun in the school grounds. 

12:30pm Prize Giving - On the top court 

 

WHAT YOU MUST BRING

 All participants must wear covered in shoes during the event. The track can get slippery so we strongly recommend shoes with a good tread suitable for walking. The weather conditions on Mt Kaukau can change quickly. All participants must have a thermal top and clothing provisions for rain/wind.

 

STAYING HYDRATED AND BEING SUN SMART

Participants are responsible for their own hydration. There will be no water stations along the route. Please make sure you carry enough water to keep yourself hydrated throughout the entire event. Please wear a shirt with sleeves, a wide brimmed hat or cap, as well as broad spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30+). 

 

FOOD

Before the event, buy some home baking from the cafe in the senior block. After you’ve finished your event there will be plenty of food stalls to purchase something more substantial to eat and drink back on the school grounds. You might want to take a banana or healthy energy bar as a boost along the trail but please remember to bring your rubbish off the hill with you . There will be EFTPOS facilities available at school for you to get cash out. 

 

MEDICATIONS

Please have any medications which you may require during the event with you. E.g Inhaler, Epipen 

HEALTH AND SAFETY

Basic first Aid Kits will be given to each marshal on the track. Attached below is the Participants Health and Safety briefing overview and also the Health and Safety Risk Assessment document.

TRAVEL AND PARKING

Khandallah School is located within walking distance of both the Boxhill and Khandallah Train Stations on the Johnsonville Line. 

If you are driving, we advise that you park on the streets surrounding the school. 

We will be notifying residents of the event, please show consideration and ensure that no driveways are blocked. 

There is no parking available on the school grounds. 

REGISTRATION

All Participants are to collect their bibs and timing chips from the Registration zone located in Kowhai between 9am and 9.45am on the day of the event. Follow the signs to this location. 

 

SAFETY BRIEFING

It is compulsory that all participants are present for the safety briefing. This will be on the top court. From the safety briefing area, participants (runners first, then walkers and dawdlers) will start heading down towards the start line which is located at the top of the Woodmancote School Driveway. 

AT THE FINISH LINE

When you reach the finish line do not stop, keep moving and follow the directions of the marshals to Kowhai to remove your timing chip and place them in the timing chip buckets then you will receive your medal and certificate. There will be people there to help you with your timing chips. 

AFTER THE EVENT

The fun doesn’t stop once you cross the finish line, stick around and enjoy the food, fun activities and prize giving. Please bring cash. There will be EFTPOS available to give cash out on the day and we will also take credit cards at no charge.

CATEGORY AWARDS AND SPOT PRIZES 

Prize giving for the more competitive participants in this event across different

categories. These will be determined once registrations have closed and we see how many kids of different ages have entered. Everyone will be able to see their timing as these will available online. 

Spot prizes: We are all about giving, acknowledging and empowering! We have lots of spot prizes which we will be giving away, for special reasons and just because.... there is even spot prizes for the adults too! These will be drawn at the prize giving so make sure you hang around. 

 

COVID 19 & THE NEW NORMAL 

Home and School is committed to running a safe event for our community if you are feeling sick, have a cold or similar please stay at home. There is not a postponement date and if we need to cancel the event you will be notified by email of any changes. If we do cancel the event you can choose to either donate the registration fee/s as this is a fundraiser for the school or you can request a refund.

CANCELLATION POLICY

The Kids’ Kaukau Challenge will be cancelled when weather conditions or other physical conditions present a danger to participants, The Kids’ Kaukau Challenge officials, in conjunction with the WCC maintain the right to cancel the event. Less threatening conditions may cause alterations of the course or the post event festivities to ensure participant, volunteer, and community safety. 

Cancellation of the Kids’ Kaukau Challenge will not result in refunding of registration fees. 

BROADCASTING OF CANCELLATION OF EVENT

In the Event of the Kid’s Kaukau Challenge having to be cancelled; we will notify all entrants by emailing the address used for registering. A cancellation notification will also be added to here and the event Facebook Page. Depending on the reason for cancellation of the fun run/walk it is likely that the food and family fun will still go ahead.

All registered children will still get their goodie bag on the day.
