Kaukau Track Building Project
Volunteer track builders are sought to assist with the WCC-approved, volunteer-led, 820m long Satara Crescent to Northern Walkway section of Korimako track.
The map below shows the route across from the water reservoir to the Northern Walkway. The remaining track section shown, from Ridvan Terrace to Satara Crescent, will be completed later. More details are available on the Facebook page: Korimako Track Builders.
Work begins at 9am on Saturday mornings, beginning with 25 January 2025, from the top of Satara Crescent. This section of track is similar to the recently completed section of track between Awarua St and Ridvan Grove. This is a family friendly activity, with (supervised) children welcome, as with previous track builds. Grubbers are available to adults, if needed. After the completed track reaches the bridge site, work will continue by moving south from the picnic table area on the Northern Walkway, up from Clark Street.
The Korimako track concept is shown in the figure below, providing walkers a low level, low gradient track between Crofton Downs to Khandallah, allowing loop walks, based on the upper Skyline track. Green sections have been completed, blue sections remaining, with the section between Awarua St and Ridvan Grove recently completed.
The southernmost dual-use section of Korimako track, north from Silversky track and passing around to the west of The Terraces development along from Silverstream Road, is approaching approval stage. This will be a volunteer-led, WCC approved, joint initiative between the mountain bike group Trails Wellington, and the walking group Korimako Track Builders. Further details on our Facebook page.
