Hydrotherapy
Hydrotherapy and swimming is integrated into a students programme offered at Kimi Ora School.
Individualized student hydrotherapy/swim plans are developed and written by teaching and specialist staff (Physiotherapists, Rehabilitation and Exercise Facilitators, Occupational Therapists, and swim trained staff) who use water to work on a large variety of physical skills, sensory experiences, and life skills.
Properties of water allow for freedom of movement, rehabilitation, pressure relief, and muscle relaxing/stretching. These properties are utilized to improve physical skills such as coordination, control, strength, and balance. The water environment provides students the opportunity to learn swim skills, water safety and confidence.
Other benefits include relationship building, engagement in a meaningful activity, dressing skills, choice making, communication, and play skills.
Naenae base site has an indoor hydrotherapy pool with hoist accessibility and our Evans Bay site has a spa pool. Evans Bay and Miramar Central sites also utilise the Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre in Kilbirnie.
