Health and Rehabilitation

Kimi Ora School —

This program enables students to access sports and recreation activities both within school and the wider community.

Our staff work with students to find meaningful activities which they want to participate in. To facilitate this participation we work with the student in the following areas;

  • Learning the physical skills required by the activity.
  • Introduce the expectations, rules and intended outcomes for the activity.
  • Develop the necessary social skills required to participate in sport and exercise activities.
  • Make connections with the community to facilitate further development within these areas.

We also work to build relationships with outside organisations such as Sense Rugby, Riding for the disabled (RDA), Special Olympics, Halberg Trust, College Sport Wellington and other recreation providers.

This allows the staff from these organisations to get to know our students and discover how to best tailor their programs to them. Students are also able to build relationships with them so that if they attend a programme outside of school, they are already familiar with the staff and vice versa.
