Physiotherapy

Kimi Ora School —

Kimi Ora School employs Physiotherapists to improve students' physical skills in order to maximise their function and independence.

Physiotherapists assess students' physical needs and develop and implement individualised therapy plans to meet the students needs, IEP goals, rehabilitation post surgery, and developmental milestones in order to facilitate their learning.

Physiotherapy is delivered to students through group and one on one sessions and hydrotherapy. It is the Physiotherapists role to assess, adjust, and prescribe equipment such as orthotics, wheelchairs, standing frames, walking aids, and positioning equipment in conjunction with community teams.

Physiotherapists help to train staff on manual handling such as hoisting, transfers/transitions, and safe handling in the water.

Physiotherapists liaise with other health professionals and are able to attend specialist appointments if requested by the family.

In 2022 the MOVE (Mobility Opportunities Via Education) programme was introduced at Kimi Ora School. MOVE is a top down activity based curriculum designed to teach students basic, functional motor skills needed for adult life, in home and community environments. It is the Physiotherapists role to help the staff team integrate and embed this philosophy into daily students routine.
