South Island Secondary Schools Triathlon

Tim Kelleher —

The South Island Secondary Schools Triathlon – took place on Sunday the 5th March at Friendly Bay, Oamaru on a wintry day.

Dan Kelleher (Year 10) represented King’s High School in the U16 event, which was made up of a 300m swim, 13km bike and a 2.5km run. The technical course around the streets of Oamaru made for some great racing and perfect viewing for the spectators.

Dan fought from 12th position in the swim up to a 5th position in the bike to put himself in a position to challenge for a medal in the run. Unfortunately, he was pipped for 3rd place after an immense sprint to the finish but he left nothing in the tank at the end.
