ANZAC Service 2023

Nic Sullivan —

Tuesday 4th of April was our ANZAC Assembly, one of our key full school assemblies of the year.

To mark this occasion we had The Kingsmen President, Sergeant Chris George, John Barr, Graeme Helm, Doug Jackson, Mack Stephens, Dunedin RSA President Lox Kellas, Queen's High School Deputy Principal Stephanie Ashton join us for this assembly of remembrance.

I was honoured to be the guest speaker for the occasion and share with the school the story of my Grandfather’s time in World War II, as both a solider and a prisoner of war. This year’s student leaders, Head Boy, Massimo Pezzuto and Deputy Head Boys, Dylan Pledger and John Warman all spoke extremely well. Rector, Nick McIvor read the stories of three Kingsmen who lost their lives in World War II. This tradition will see all the boys hear the stories of the 15 Kingsmen who lost their lives in the War throughout their five years at King’s.

The whole school gathered at our flagpole in the Quad for the laying of the wreaths and poppies, followed by Ben Nguyen playing the Last Post and the Reveille.

All the students were fantastic as they honoured and respected all those men and women who sacrificed for our nation. A huge thank you to everyone involved in this special assembly.
