Uni Physics
At the end of last term, a group of Level 2 Physics boys visited the University of Otago Physics Department.
While there, they got to work with University students and staff who showed them sub-atomic particles traveling through super-cooled ethanol vapour, demonstrations to show how fibre optic cables work and to prove that light moves as a wave. The highlight was a visit to the "cold atom lab" where several students got to use lasers to cool an atom to 0.000 000 001 K, capture the atom, and take home an image of it.
