Cultural Blues Awards

This year our Cultural Blues Assembly paid tribute to one of the largest groups of creative young men

 A Cultural Blue is awarded to those who excel in their cultural or artistic activities. The exceptional group of students showcased in 2021 came from:

Bag Piping, Jazz Band, Kapa Haka, King's of the Pacific, Polyfest, Rockquest and Shakespeare.


Awarded a Cultural Silver:

Joel Wilden Silver Award (New Zealand) for Bag Piping – Music Performance. This year Joel competed at the RNZPBA National Pipe Band Championships. He plays at ANZAC Services, Openings and all sorts of events throughout the year.

Zac Bell Silver Award (New Zealand) for Drama. Zac was very successful at the University of Otago Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival and was selected by the Shakespeare Festival Globe Centre (SGCNZ) for the National Shakespeare Schools Production (NSSP).

Daniel Honey Silver Award (New Zealand) for Drama. Daniel was also very successful at the University of Otago Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival and was selected by the Shakespeare Festival Globe Centre (SGCNZ) for the National Shakespeare Schools Production (NSSP).This opportunity allowed him to then achieve further selection to the Young Shakespeare Company. Daniel will travel to the Globe Theatre in London, England in 2022 for acting tuition. This is a huge opportunity for Daniel.

  • Nukuroa McLean, Manawa Singh, Jesse Spiers, Andre Taani, Orlando Tuhega-Vaitupu for Kapa Haka (He Waka Kōtuia) – Cultural Performance
  • Mahonri Auva’a, Trevor Elisara, Christian Fogavai, Finau Fosita, CJ Henry, Fatai Koloi, Nicholas Levy, Kata Moata’ane, Steve Salelea, Elijah Tu’i, Ne’emia Vaiangina for Polyfest – Cultural Performance
  • Te Kahurangi McLean, Christian Fogavai, CJ Henry, Nathaniel Strange for Rockquest (“Melo Keys”) – Music Performance
  • Toby Dobson, Casey Jowsey, Chris Klemetson, James McKenzie, Zed Ramsay, John Warman for Shakespeare Festival – Artistic Performance
