Dunedin Men’s A Grade Basketball Success

Nic Sullivan —

On Saturday it was finals day for all of the Otago Men’s Basketball competitions, with the A Grade Men’s final being the premier event. The Mid City Magic team beat the St Kilda Saints 103 – 79.

There were five Basketball Kingsmen involved in the final. The standout performance being Mid City Magic and former King’s 1st Team Captain and two time MVP, Dallas Hartmann, being named the Most Valuable Player for his exceptional play throughout the season and in the final.

The other starter in the Magic team was current Nuggets player and another ex-King’s 1st Team Captain and four time MVP, Josh Aitcheson.

Angus Cameron another ex-King’s 1st Team player was playing for St Kilda. Current King’s Assistant Principal, Junior Basketball Coach and Kingsman, Sam Fielding is the Head Coach for the Mid City Magic, winning his first title in charge of the team. Having coached Dallas for nine years through King’s and Magic Basketball, made this win even better for Coach Fielding.

Current King’s Director of Basketball and Head Coach, Alf Arlidge was a founder of the Magic Club and still coaches many of their teams, which includes a long list of former King’s 1st Team players, who continue their Basketball journey with the club.

It was an exceptional achievement for all the Kingsmen involved.
