Vegetable soup a waste buster

Kate Gilmore —

Vegetables, bread and fruit were found to be the ‘most wasted’ products in Rabobank-Kiwi Harvest Food Waste Survey.

New Zealand households waste an estimated 13.4% of their food, up from 8.6% last year. This equates to a whopping $1,520 per household, per year.

Younger New Zealanders waste a significantly higher proportion of their household food spend compared to older Kiwis.

This fortnight Year 12 students made vegetable soup with excess vegetables and practised different types of vegetable cuts during the process. The soup was accompanied with fresh bread from Gardens New World and we would like to thank them as well for their regular contributions.
