King's Cross Country teams deliver strong results

Rocky Allan —

Caversham Relays

The debut of the brand new Caversham Harriers Relay was highly anticipated by the five King’s teams that participated in the race last Thursday. The course featured a short and sweet uphill 50m from the start and was followed by some sharp turns around Kettle Park. Three long straights and a fun downhill sprint toward the finish line provided a technical but quick course for all of the runners. King’s Junior A Team took out the Gold and a respectful Silver was awarded to the Senior A Team.

We celebrated the debut of Liam Fairbairn and Matthew Larsen where Matthew ran in school shoes and even a school tie. Not very suitable for running but a definite embodiment of the King’s Spirit! Well done to you all.

Southern Schools Cross Country Champs - Timaru

A thick layer of dew coated the Ashbury Park grounds in Timaru where seven King’s runners would tackle the undulating and unforgiving NZ Southern Schools Cross Country course throughout last Sunday.

After watching the girls’ race featuring a strong Queen’s presence, the Year 9 boys took to the sharp inclines and tough bends around the 1.5km course for two laps, where our very own Thomas Weatherall took the Bronze in a tough race over the hurdle to the finish line. Leo Young performed strongly with a fifteenth placing. The U16 boys were next where the first three runners from King’s to cross the finish line (Joshua Scott, Dan Kelleher and George Fa’asega) ran impressively and tenaciously. Max Lowrey had a comfortable race with a time of just over 14 minutes. Rocky Allan went alone as the only Kingsman to compete in the Senior Boys Race, where he was subjected to three laps of the course. Apart from a double shoelace malfunction and the temporary loss of a timing chip, he finished strongly in seventh place.

A big thank you is due to Wayne Fa’asega, Scott Weatherall, Geoff Anderson, Grant Koedyk, Tim and Helen Kelleher and our TIC Mr White for providing transportation and amazing support to our runners today, this couldn’t have been made possible without your assistance.

We sincerely appreciate the consistent effort that you all put into our crew and a big thank you goes out to you all.
