RAW!

Jo Harford —

On Wednesday, two renowned old boys and one valued King's parent returned to King’s High School to mentor arts students and participate in the Festival of Arts and Culture.

The school’s annual celebration of music, culture, performance and visual art was something special this year with the addition of three well respected industry professionals sharing their expertise with students of exceptional potential.

The three laureates all have links to the school, with Hone Kouka (film-maker, playwright, festival director) and Barry Cleavin (printmaking) being alumni, and Bob Scott (seminal ‘Dunedin sound’ musician and recent inductee to the NZ Music Hall of Fame) being the parent of a student.

We wanted to continue the model which started two years ago where professionals who work in the arts come to school and share their knowledge with students in a day-long masterclass, and combine it with our annual Festival of Arts and Culture; RAW!

Both the day and the evening were a huge success. The level of talent and range of skills that our boys possess is nothing short of amazing. Congratulations to all those who performed and a huge thank you to Master of Ceremonies Bryan Frost whose enthusiasm and passion for the arts at King's is one of the reasons we are in such a strong position today.
