National Japanese Trivia Competition

Kris Baker —

A fun and inclusive event for everyone

A group of Year 9 students competed in the National Japanese Trivia Competition. This year the Otago regions competition was held at Otago Girls’ High School. The event aimed to encourage students to put their cultural knowledge to the test in a friendly setting.

In between snacking on Japanese snacks and having a half-time sushi break, the boys answered questions on all aspects of Japan.

Congratulations to team 9Nk, which consisted of Seva Solomatenko, Adam Salisbury, Blake Taylor and Ehren van Strik-Taylor. These boys were placed second, closely behind Opihi College from Temuka.

A special mention to Benny Iakopo and Michael Aitcheson for teaming with the sole competitors from Logan Park High School and Otago Boys’ High School. Thanks, boys, your inclusiveness and willingness to work with others was well recognised.
