Junior Speech Competition showcases the best of the best
The Junior Speech competitions have wrapped up, and it was a privilege to watch around twenty boys lay it on the line and have their say in front of their respective cohort.
Topics ranged from the sublime to the ridiculous (ridiculous in a good way). We had everything from Educational Reform to a Jurassic Park obsession.
It was very, very tough to separate the top three for each group. However, special congratulations must go to Ethan Rangitutia in Year 9 who was incredibly charismatic. Ethan had the PAC in the palm of his hand for the entire speech, and gave us a lesson on how to project yourself to a large audience with passion and poise.
Sam Blackwood was amazing for different reasons, convincing the audience with what the Greeks would recognise as the perfect balance of Ethos, Logos and Pathos. His speech covered the controversial issue of Assisted death for the terminally ill, and I for one have not come across a more well researched, heartfelt and sincere junior speech.
Year 9 Speech Placings:
