House Day 2023

Garry Turner —

In typical Dunedin fashion, the mini heatwave of the previous week evaporated and was replaced with a series of southerly squalls; just in time for our annual House Day.

The day started with a quick briefing by Hanover Dean, Garry Turner before spreading out to complete a set of leadership and team building tasks. Each Group was tasked with; filling a black bag with rubbish from the venue and producing a portable nest that could hold one dozen golden Tennis balls (representing the heart of Hanover).

Lunch began at 11:30 with half the House heading to the beach to swim with the icebergs while the rest of us searched for warmth and shelter. The afternoon activity of “Rob the Nest” descended, into a series of Geneva Convention breaches and was cut short by the final freezing shower and the “hopeful” arrival of the buses to take us back to school.

While the highlights were many, of special note was the work done by our Kapa Haka leaders in teaching the new Year 9’s, Raiona Ma.
