Careers Week and Library News

Bridget Schaumann —

Ms Schaumann (our Librarian and Careers Advisor) has a couple of important message for you all.

Firstly, thank you to everyone who has been bringing donations of popular books to the library. These have been much appreciated and the response to the call out for these books has been fantastic. These books have lots of readers at our school and we loan about 9,000 books a year which means that popular books are very well used. Those books which we have not needed for our collection have been offered to other school libraries or put into the Lilliput Library system.

Secondly, this week has been Careers Week at King’s High School, next week students will be asked to choose their subjects for next year. There are some online tools to help students who are stuck. We strongly suggest that students (and parents) use the Careers New Zealand website which has a hub for those picking subjects for next year. This link will take you there

You will find information on:

  • Understanding NCEA
  • NCEA vs School C
  • Matching subjects to jobs in demand
  • Using Subject Matcher to find the ideal job
  • NCEA credits needed for tertiary study or training
  • STEM subjects – but remember that we need people to study the arts as well!
  • Conversation tips for subject choice time
  • 8 Steps to choosing school subjects
  • An eBook which has info called Where to from school?

As always students are welcome to come and have a conversation with the Careers Advisor, Bridget Schaumann or to email questions to sc@kingshigh.school.nz  She can discuss options and help with future planning.

There are information brochures available in the Library on the Careers Information Board and Ms Schaumann can provide more if needed.

During lunchtime next Tuesday Ms Schaumann will have a subject choice table set up in the library where she will answer questions.
