Congratulations to the Year 10 Touch Tournament Winners and the King's Organisers

Dan Koni —

On Thursday, the King's Junior Touch Invitational Tournament was held at Tonga Park and run by the King's Year 12 Physical Education class for their National Certificate.

Preparations started back in Term 3 for the Year 12 students who were tasked with organising the food, the draw, referees, fields, equipment, health and safety risks assessments, team liaison, sponsorship, and all finances associated with the event.

The Year 12 class assessment with a full evaluation, presented in a final report is part of the NCEA Attainment Certificate. The Junior Touch Tournament idea was established 14 years ago, due to gap in competition for Junior Touch, particularly for this age group. Games were organised with Otago Boys' High School (OBHS) and John McGlashan College (JMC).

It serves as a great trial run for any boys wishing to progress their competitive Touch, and also allows Mr Koni to get another look at students putting their hands up for the King’s 1st Touch Senior Training Squad.

We would like to thank all the staff involved in catering, grounds, management, and refereeing for their support in this event.

GRAND FINAL: KHS Year 10’s defeated OBHS 10-3.

This is the first time, the same team has won the tournament. In 2021, the tournament was won by KHS Year 9 Touch Academy and naturally won it again as they progressed into the Year 10 Touch Academy. This is a particularly great achievement as our competing schools bring their Junior 1st Team to this competition.
