Sharron McCormack —

Congratulations Luke Brinkley who became Jiu-jitsu Champion in not one but two divisions in last weekends NZ GI Championships held in Auckland.

It was also a nice surprise to see Rayyan Balasmeh who was a former King's student before moving to Auckland compete and win a bronze medal in his division.

Luke has been a Jujitsu student of BJJ Dunedin since he was 8 years old and is a regular competitor on the competition circuit. Lately Luke has been competing in the Blue Belt divisions which is two belts higher than his own. This sees him competing against 17 & 18 year old's and adults. He has recently competed and won against a 26 year old in the Blue Belt Men division which is quite an achievement for a 15 year old.

Luke has won many titles including a South Island Championship and has a bright future in jiu-jitsu.

Luke will next try for another New Zealand title in April next year in the No GI Nationals (without the white uniform) again held in Auckland and then has set his sights on the Pan Pacific Championship in Australia.

Congratulations Luke!
