Riley's leadership skills impress club members

Lindsay Smith & Jo Harford —

Riley Smith (Year 13) was appointed Chairperson of the Otago Section of the New Zealand Alpine Club last term – the youngest ever appointment to this position.

Riley’s own development as a Mountaineer, and the leadership role he has taken in organising the club’s very successful Rock Climbing Programme in Dunedin for the last year, gave the region’s members confidence to appoint him to the role. As Chairperson of the Otago Committee, he will provide direction to the club’s development in Otago and also represent the local members on the National Executive of the New Zealand Alpine Club.

Being the youngest person ever appointed to this prestigious position speaks volumes about Riley's level of leadership and maturity; two traits that he has demonstrated at school and that others will now appreciate.
