Dylan Pledger presented with Academic Cap

Cameron McPhail —

Dylan Pledger returned to King's on Monday to receive his Academic Cap in the Senior Assembly.

To receive a King’s Academic Cap a student must achieve an Excellence Certificate Endorsement at NCEA Levels 1, 2 and 3. This means 50 Excellence credits or more at each level. Ten students from our 2023 Year 13 cohort reached the thresholds required to receive an Academic Cap.

What makes the Cap especially prestigious and unique is that it rewards persistence, discipline and consistency across three consecutive years.

Dylan Pledger's Citation

One of our Deputy Head prefects from last year Dylan was a consummate all-round student. During his senior years at King’s, he amassed 207 Excellence credits in total - 80 at Level 1, 65 at Level 2 and 62 at Level 3. His teachers credit him for being an active and engaged learner, both willing to ask questions and listen to advice. He is also described as a respectful young man, who always brought a positive attitude and great sense of humour to the classroom.

Dylan’s academic feats are especially impressive given his catalogue of extra curricular commitments and achievements. He was a cornerstone of our 1st XV and 1st Touch teams, gaining New Zealand Representative Honours in each. He made the NZ Secondary School Rugby Team two years in a row; the NZ U16 and U18 Touch Teams; and since leaving school has played for the NZ U20 Rugby Team in the Rugby Championship, being named as halfback in the Tournament team.

Dylan, congratulations on all your achievements so far, both Sporting and Academic, we look forward to watching and celebrating all your future successes.
