A fabulous feast of music

Kris White —

On Sunday 15th August we held our fundraising concert for Polyhymnia to attend the South Island Cadenza.

The opportunity to attend the South Island Cadenza this year is an honour so we are thrilled.

Polyhymnia was joined by our Jazz Band called Queen B and the Swing King's and our orchestra. Each of these groups includes students from both King's and Queen's.

The students work hard throughout the year learning and playing their music but don't always get the opportunity to perform. It would be wonderful if a concert like this became an annual event.

While the concert went a bit longer than we anticipated the event was enjoyed by all and we raised over $3000 to put towards our trip costs for all students.

Our thanks go to the parents who helped to organise the event, the raffles, and the food. Also, thanks to the Music Teachers who put such a huge effort into growing our young musicians.

Special mention must go to Paul Claman and Ross Kane our Itinerant Music Teachers.

The members of Polyhymnia have worked very hard this year and have come such a long way in improving their craft. As we share this article, we are now unsure if Cadenza will go ahead (due to COVID) but we are hopeful.

Well done to everyone.
